for mayor of St. Paul. Date on this pin seems to be about 1905. Backpaper

MN-02. For Mayor, Thos. Van Lear. Cello, 1.25 inch. Backpaper of the
Wendell-Greenwood firm of Minneapolis. Thomas van Lear was a leader of the
machinists' union in Minneapolis. As the Socialist Party's nominee for mayor,
Van Lear made a credible showing in 1910 and 1912. In 1916 he was again
the party's nominee, and this time he won, with much support from organized
labor.
