Mayor Charles Evers Inauguration, Fayette, Mississippi, July 7, 1969. Cello, 2.25 inch.

This nice pinback dates from Evers' inauguration as Mississippi's first black mayor. (Or more accurately, the first black mayor in a multiracial town.) Charles Evers was the brother of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, and in many ways he picked up the torch when his brother fell to an assassin. Not only was Charles Evers elected mayor of Fayette, he also ran for governor as the Magnolia State's first black candidate for the state's highest office.

$9.75
